First knitted sweater 2024…

…is done!

This time it´s a mens sweater for our youngest. His passion lies in outdoor life, using time climbing, hiking, skiing, finding his way over glaciers, guiding and so on. All though I wasn´t sure about the colors at first, I´m very satisfied as I see the project finished now.
The pattern is called Carl. Yarn I used is from Dale Garn by House of Yarn and called Sterk. It´s a mix of 40% alpakka, 40% merino wool and 20% nylon.

At first sight I was not too enthusiastic about the colours I picked. But as the project kept growing I liked it better and better.

A closer look at the raglan decreases. Since this particular pattern is knitted bottom-up, shaping the raglan is achieved by decreasing the stitches. I think it is å beatiful way to attach the sleeves to the body. Very important though to keep your eyes on the price when there is a pattern involved, so everything matches nice and smooth.

So, here is one og the parts that makes this sweater super populair and specially on cold days………
The Turtleneck!
It´s perfectly possible to knit the i-cord but to me that seemed something that only would have made me frustrated. I remembered, as a child we had these “mushrooms” used to make cords. I think this was called French knitting or spool knitting. Anyway…my mushroom was still somewhere in the house (can you imagine, I think I must have been 4-5 years when I got it as a birthday present). With the mushroom I made a 100 cm cord in about 90 minutes!

“Cherry on top”
I like putting a tag on my knitted projects. In this case a little tag that says “Barsk og Kjekk”, freely translated I think you could say “Tough & Handsome” Absolutely a frase that suits the receiver best.

My mushroom that I used as a child. I think I have had it for about 53-54 years. Never offered it one single thought. Until 2 weeks ago……

Thank you again for your visit. It might well be you also have a little mushroom in the attic…….
